• Dr. Kaufman is an acknowledged expert in health care. She wants to bring her many years of experience to Harrisburg to help solve the ongoing health-care crisis for millions of uninsured and under insured Pennsylvanians. Whatever health care plan is eventually passed by Congress will fall short of the needs of many middle class Pennsylvanians, perhaps costing them even more money than before. Dr. Kaufman believes that fiscal conservatism plays a major role in controlling the costs associated with providing sound and efficient care to the millions who need it most and she has devoted her professional career to helping hospitals save money and streamline services which has led to clinical expansion and better patient care. A core principal for health care is better preventive care and shortening the time the patient has to be in the hospital. This provides a fiscal responsibility and a healthier patient.
  • Reducing property taxes and easing the burden on the homeowner are a top priority for Fern. By working with the Governor and Legislature, she will support the use of the newly legislated table gaming revenue to provide state funding to the schools thus reducing or eliminating the property tax burden which is essential for the district during this economic crisis.
  • Protecting and enhancing the public education system is an investment in our children and all of our futures. Fern takes this responsibility very seriously having had the benefits of a good education help her build a productive life. Schools and teachers need support and resources, not spend most of their time giving tests.
  • Fern pledges to fervently sponsor and support legislation that speaks to the core of civil rights, workplace discrimination and unfair labor practices.
  • Keeping our environment safe and investing in renewable energy sources is crucial to Pennsylvania’s economy. Options to reduce our dependence on natural resources will create badly needed jobs and offer economic stability throughout the state. Dr. Kaufman pledges a strong commitment to sound energy policies that promote both environmentally friendly solutions and smart fiscal growth.
  • Fern is committed to working with local law enforcement providing the tools and training necessary to keep our children and families safe from crime. By working with local law enforcement and listening to the needs of the neighborhood leaders, Fern is committed to providing a safe, drug-free environment for families and local businesses to thrive in Chester County. The job of your State Representative is to be part of the community, on the ground, in the neighborhoods doing whatever it takes to help law enforcement in any way possible to make our district safe and productive.
  • Smart growth and preserving open space can both benefit the economy of Chester County while protecting environmental treasures. Fern will protect our district’s open space and infrastructure.
  • Pennsylvania has become a focal point for animal cruelty in terms of the percentage of puppy mills operating in the state. While sound, safe and humane breeding of animals is acceptable, inhumane treatment of animals is not only cruel but is a reflection on all of the citizens of a Pennsylvania. While the legislature has taken important steps in transforming this practice, there is still much work to be done to look after all of God’s creatures.
  • Accomplishing these important policy changes requires reaching across the aisle and putting politics aside. The budget crisis highlights the need for politicians to work together in a more cooperative fashion, and Fern is committed to bringing that type of commitment to Harrisburg. We need to get back to the core fundamentals of governing. We need to go back to the basics our country was founded on. Of the people…by the people.
